Alexander McCall Smith’s poetry for The Great Tapestry of Scotland is turning history into music.
Alexander selected six panels from The Great Tapestry of Scotland and created a poem for each. Long-time friend and composer Tom Cunningham wrote music and David Lyle arranged them for voice – one superb soloist and a lovely young children’s choir from Peebles in the Scottish Borders. The outcome is delightful.

The Great Tapestry of Scotland was the idea of Alexander McCall Smith. He worked with artist, Andrew Crummy, historian, Alistair Moffat and more than 1000 volunteer stitchers to make his dream a reality. The result is the story of Scotland told in stitch… and it’s delightful!
