Date Published: 3rd September 2020

The long wait is over. How to Raise an Elephant, the 21st book in the global hit series, The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, is published today (3 September 2020).

In this strange, Covid-19 dominated period, spirits can be low. But catch up with Mma Ramotswe in Botswana and the sun will be shining wherever you are. Rush back to your local bookshop and support them today as they fight their way back to recovery.

‘There is a graceful ease to the words of Alexander McCall Smith, he is so gently yet evocatively descriptive and as soon as I started to read a sense of ease enveloped me. The pace slows, the small things matter, and Mma Ramotswe is just glorious. How to Raise an Elephant really is the most delightful read’ – LoveReading.co.uk

Alexander is abiding by government guidelines and we have cancelled nearly all physical events this year. He enjoys nothing more than getting out and meeting readers but this year you can find him online in virtual events with the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Islay Festival, the FT Weekend Festival, Wigtown Festival and more. Keep an eye on the events listings and news stories on this site.

In the meantime, read about Diane Rendle the new cover artist here.

Stay safe and well.
