Lyceum at Home – this week!

Date Published: 8th June 2026

It is has come round very quickly, but we are delighted to report that Alexander’s play for Lyceum at Home is being performed out in the community in Edinburgh this week (in people’s homes and places of work). And then, from 18-20 June, on stage at the Lyceum.

In addition to Alexander’s work, monologues were commissioned from a further three leading writers and all are now being performed in an intimate run in homes across Edinburgh. All four plays then come together for the first time in a compelling quadruple bill.

Who are the writers for Lyceum at Home?

Written by leading Scottish voices – Apphia Campbell (Black is the Colour of My Voice, Through the Mud), our own Alexander McCall Smith (best known for The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, 44 Scotland Street novels), Isla Cowan (Alright Sunshine, To the Bone) and Stephen Greenhorn (Sunshine on Leith, River City) – these powerful 30-minute monologues capture the lives, choices and everyday moments that shape the city.

Lyceum at Home is part of the Lyceum’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, this is a rare opportunity to see all four plays in one unforgettable evening of storytelling.
