And now we have it!… NEW CENTRE NOW OPEN

Date Published: 28th August 2021

The new home for The Great Tapestry of Scotland is now open to the public. You can book to visit Thursday to Monday in any week. The quite stunning new building, designed by Page Park, is situated on the High Street in Galashiels, a Scottish Borders town situated in the historic home of the textiles industry.

Be sure to book ahead. This is a very popular destination! The building boasts a cafe stocked with food and drink from Scotland’s larder, a shop filled with books and memorabilia, and a temporary exhibition space on the ground floor. One floor up (with easy, lift access for those who can’t manage the stair), the full display of The Great Tapestry of Scotland is resplendent in its new setting. And as you make your way up the stairs, you will spot an artwork designed by Andrew Crummy – a metal image of a stitcher with the names of every individual who stitched on the panels of The Great Tapestry of Scotland (more than 1000 in total) running through the threads. It is quite spectacular.
