Alexander’s great friend Andrew Crummy, artist behind The Great Tapestry of Scotland, visited the Tapestry centre in Galashiels on Friday. His mission? To show Fiona Hyslop MSP around the exhibition. Ms Hyslop has been very engaged with this project since its inception, supportive of both the creative process and pushing forward with a gallery in the Scottish Borders. She was the Culture Secretary over the entire period of stitching and building and witnessed the overwhelming response from the public to the Tapestry when it was first exhibited in the Scottish Parliament building. People queued round the block.
Fiona Hyslop is currently the Cabinet Secretary for Transport for the Scottish Parliament and therefore has an interest in the success of the Borders Railway which brings so many of the visitors to the Tapestry Centre. It runs from Edinburgh to the Borders and stops just moments away from Tapestry. Andrew was delighted to show her round the exhibition.
