Bertie is back in Scotland Street. The serial novel turns 18 and returns today to the pages of the Scotsman Newspaper for a new season
Scotland Street, the world’s longest running serial novel, is back in its traditional slot, on the pages of the Scotsman Newspaper (digital and print editions). And Bertie is back too. You can catch it five days a week, Monday to Friday, and catch up with the goings on of our favourite neighbours, in our favourite street, in our favourite city.
How does it start?
‘Do you have an arc in your life? An arc takes you from A to B, ascending and descending like a wave. It takes you from childhood, by way of what happens to you and what you do, to a point that occurs much later, to an ending, a resolution. That is what arcs are meant to do. They are contours, lines on the map of our lives – they are our narratives.
Not all lives, though, proceed quite like that…’

The season will be gathered into book form and published early in November with the title, The Stellar Debut of Galactica MacFee. Pre-order now at your local book shop or online.
Need a reminder of the characters? You can read about the characters here. And catch up with the paperback of the previous book in the series, The Enigma of Garlic.
And enjoy too, Sandy’s interview for the Scotsman in advance of the launch of the new season.
