Alexander returns to Elephant Havens, Botswana

A return to Elephant Havens

Alexander is back in his happy place, Botswana! He is joining readers from around the world for a very special safari experience in the country.

‘Sandy’ is travelling with his good friend Mats Ögren Wanger. And we are grateful to Mats for the photographs above and below.

On Sunday they visited Elephant Havens, a charity Alexander is very happy to support – their mission is to protect and preserve the African Elephant.

‘Through habitat protection, community outreach, and the rescue and hand-rearing of young elephant orphans, Elephant Havens aims to become a leading voice in wildlife conservation awareness and wildlife protection. We envision a world in which African elephants and local communities co-exist without conflict, and where young elephant orphans are saved and reintroduced into the wild.’

The organisation was co-founded by Mr Bee (Boago Poloko). He is seen below with Alexander. Mr Bee, Debra Stevens and Scott Jackson set up the sanctuary in 2017 along with their charitable, non-profit Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation.

In 2020 they named one of the orphaned baby elephants ‘SANDY’, after Alexander McCall Smith, who mentions the organisation in the 21st volume of The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, How to Raise an Elephant.

DId Alexander stop for a haircut on the way? Maybe…
