Hexham Festival bathes in Spring Sunshine

Date Published: 26th April 2023

Alexander visited Hexham Literary festival yesterday for a hugely popular lunchtime event at the Abbey. The delightful drive down the A68 from Alexander’s Edinburgh home is more or less straight. Once you’re on that road you simply keep going… but the landscapes in the Spring sunshine are spectacular. Wide open green spaces, hills, woods and Spring lambs.

On arrival we went straight to the Abbey (which sits in the heart of this market town with its cobbled streets and tight wynds), had a quick coffee and one of the tastiest cheese scones from the Abbey’s cafe, and then into a packed room and an entertaining conversation with New Writing North’s Claire Malcolm. In short, it was a very good day out!

You can find out more about the ancient history of Hexham on the Visit Northumberland website. Vikings and Romans feature heavily.
