Australia on the horizon: Sir Alexander prepares for the Words on the Waves festival

Date Published: 6th December 2024

Sir Alexander is about to embark on a week long literary festival, Words on the Waves, with Cunard, setting out from Sydney in Australia and heading over to Tasmania. He has been in Sydney for the past few days, doing interviews for ABC Radio and preparing for the trip but he has also managed to fit in a few on-shore events too – the Friends of Wollongong Library Literary Dinner and a superb, sellout ‘Words on the Waves’ afternoon-tea event in Terrigal, NSW. On Wednesday 11 December he will set sail from Sydney on the Queen Elizabeth, giving talks while at sea, voyaging to Tasmania’s Great Oyster Bay before returning to Sydney on 16 December and flying home to Scotland.

Alexander will be talking about his writing career and his latest books, The Great Hippopotamus Hotel (new in The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series) and The Winds from Further West, a standalone novel set in the Hebridean islands and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Alexander is a great sailor and loves nothing more than to be on the open sea. This festival is a joy for him.
