A TEDx First for artist Andrew Crummy

Date Published: 16th April 2025

Congratulations to Dr Andrew Crummy MBE on his first TEDx TALK, delivered in Mexico

Alexander’s great friend and one of the trio behind The Great Tapestry of Scotland, artist Dr Andrew Crummy, has delivered his first TEDx Talk, in Mexico.

The talk was smooth in delivery, rich and moving in content – outstanding, inspirational and uplifting. Andrew talked of the power of the arts in community to transform lives. Starting with his personal history and bringing in the work of his mother, Helen Crummy, Andrew explored his own background and how he became involved in community tapestries which lift and educate and offer a creative outlet for all involved. He also unveiled a new panel, stitched in Mexico, for the Cancer Tapestry which he started during treatment for his own battle with cancer.

Andrew, Alexander and Scotland’s great historian Alistair Moffat, worked together to bring the dream of a Great Tapestry of Scotland to reality. Now, more than 12 years later, the tapestry sits proudly in a purpose built gallery in Galashiels. It is the longest stitched tapestry in the world. Do visit if you get a chance. It is one to Trip Advisors TOP ATTRACTIONS IN THE WOLRD!
