An Island Festival Moves Online

Date: 27 August 2020
Venue: Online
Time: 7.30 pm

Islay Book Festival is an Island Festival moving online.  Alexander is joining the line up for this community festival usually held on an island just off the West Coast of Scotland. He will be in discussion with leading arts journalist and founder of the Granite Noir Crime Writing Festival Lee Randall  about the inspiration behind his writing and his popular cast of characters. The internationally bestselling creator of the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency and 44 Scotland Street also introduces his new book, Tiny Tales, teeny short stories produced in collaboration with his illustrator and friend, Iain McIntosh.

The beautiful island of Islay is perhaps best-known around the world for its whisky. This festival shows a different side of island life.

From their website: Founded in 2006, Islay Book Festival grew out of a small book club in the village of Port Ellen into the thriving, volunteer-run event we know today. Set against the stunning backdrop of Scotland’s whisky isle, we are now firmly established within Islay’s busy annual events calendar and Argyll’s wider cultural scene.

Since our first festival in 2006, Islay Book Festival has brought a colourful mix of authors, poets, and storytellers to the Hebrides, including Ali Smith, Ruth Rendell, Val McDermid, Iain Banks, Chris Brookmyre, Julia Donaldson, Alistair Moffat, Mairi Hedderwick, Colin MacIntyre, Bernard MacLaverty and Ian Rankin.  In 2020, due to the pandemic, we are moving online.
